Gobo Size Guide

The gobo size you need depends on the lighting fixture and holder, not on a single standard diameter. The usual way to confirm size is to send the fixture model, an existing gobo or a holder photo.

How do I know what size gobo I need?

Start with the fixture model. If you have an existing gobo or a holder, a photo of those parts is also useful. Then confirm:

  • OD / Outer Diameter
  • ID / Inner Diameter
  • Thickness
  • Material
  • Gobo type

Do not assume the projected image diameter equals ID. See OD and ID.

Why fixture model comes first

Gobo dimensions are not universal across all lighting fixtures. Two fixtures that look similar can use different holders and different gobo sizes.

37.5 mm gobos are used by many lighting fixtures, but compatibility depends on the specific fixture and holder design.

Common mistakes

  • Ordering from a round millimetre value without checking the holder
  • Using a gobo from another fixture without comparing OD, ID and thickness
  • Assuming a catalogue size will fit because the fixture is a common brand

How to confirm before ordering

Send:

  1. Fixture model
  2. Artwork
  3. Quantity
  4. Existing gobo or holder photo, if you have one

We will help confirm the specification. Continue with gobo compatibility or custom gobos.

FAQ

Is there a universal gobo size?

No. Gobo size depends on the lighting fixture and holder. Confirm OD, ID and thickness against the fixture model.

Can I order from diameter alone?

Diameter alone is often not enough. Holder design, thickness and the inside opening also matter. Send the fixture model whenever possible.
